My goal with this site is to learn and explore with my readers while having fun.  I have a Doctorate in Education, and I am a mental health therapist. Most of all, I have a love for food, family, and fun.

Born in Queens, New York to a Brooklynite and a South Carolinian, I embrace my curiosity for life and people. My love for food and wine started with attending food vendor festivals in Long Island. I would find wines that interest me and buy bottles of them and hoard them in my basement. Soon I befriended a connoisseur  who was patient and kind enough to teach me about wines and pairings. I began attending as many food and wine festivals as I could and acquaint myself with the vendors.

The idea for Sip’n in the Kitchen was suggested by my daughter, who thought I should write about wine as I loved to search for new wines and match them with dinner. As I began writing, I realized that Sip’n in the kitchen has always been part of me growing up. Coming from a predominantly African American family, I recall many dishes created by the women in the family, which included my mom, my Godmother, aunts, and cousins. They talked about current events, culture, and issues which, often never came to a resolution. That just meant they were back at it again the next week. Still, it sure looked like fun watching them trying to get there. I recall the jokes, the laughter, and dancing while prepping food and pots clanking in the kitchen while bottles of wine poured into glasses. At times, the glasses were elegant, and then there were times when they held mason jars filled with spirits. Throughout my life, I would find that sipping and cooking with family and friends was an experience that crossed all cultures, and I want to explore more.
